I so much appreciate this post! I have a very rare poem of Simic's that I will find and post here. I too started writing poetry in the sixties: haiku in the vein of that found in the Peter Pauper Press, and eventually free verse in the style of masters like Gary Snyder, Whalen and Rexroth as my models. Even designed two chapbooks very much poor imitations of Snyder's voice. I didn't find my own voice until a trip in the Wallowas in the early eighties. I still write, but only for myself now. Unintelligible stuff for the most part! Thanks again!
Well, I went down to the basement, but no joy. I thought I might have had a signed Simic broadside from about thirty five years ago. I was collecting signed ephemera and broadsides back then. Couldn't turn up anything. Sorry. There was also a book, The Port Exposed, by Chris Felver with photos and handwritten poems of a ton of posts from the eighties. I have a copy, unfortunately Simic wasn't in it.
beautiful and moving tribute
Thank you, Maureen.
When will you start your Substack? Inquiring minds want to know.
What you write is poetry, Jason. Your weaving of science, reverence, and mysticism is a gift. Thank you for both the science and the words.
Thank you, Jenny. It's always great to hear that the work means something to others. It helps keep the fires lit.

Thank you, Michael. I'm interested to see the Simic poem. Glad also to hear from someone who has kept poetry close through their life.

Oh well, thank you for looking, Michael.
