Thanks, Jason. The peace is coming from a spectacular downsize to 235 square feet…my hobbit place is off the grid. That seemed a far off dream but hurricanes deliver strange gifts. My only problem is letting go of the books, or many books. (The voice in my head says, “but I’ll need to quote from here…”.
And I am happy to report that I am back to being one of your founding members. You are one of the most important writers on Substack, and certainly the most important for my work.
Wow, that's quite a downsize, Katharine. Congrats on moving off-grid and on having the courage to simplify to such a degree.
I'm honored to have you back as a founding member. It's far too generous of you, so as always please feel free to do what's best for you at any time. I'll keep doing my best to offer worthwhile work.
Thank you Jason , for showcasing beauty. Not just a soul mate, a kindred spirit, maybe a combination of each. Sharer of joy, joy mate, life sharer. Well, after 47 years , I haven’t figured out the exact name for what we have together. No need really, I think the Staghorn Sumac leaves say it best, tomorrow it might be something different, maybe a male and female Cardinal perched near each other on a wintered white branch. Actually, Heather said it best;
“Somehow the wind blew you here, next to me”.
Happy New Season & Happy and Healthy New Year. And thank you for sharing with a sharer.
A quietly beautiful gift to share with your devoted grateful readers. Especially happy to hear you are taking well-deserved gentle downtime for yourself! 💫
Thank you, Kathleen. I'm enjoying the downtime from the news, but have replaced it with family busyness - kids, dogs, games, overeating - that has kept me quite occupied.
Thanks, Lori. I'm always happy to highlight Heather and the naturalist program. Would love to see programs like MMNP become a much larger part of daily culture. That would be a good sign, right?
Love this-and just what I/we needed this time of year. Thanks for sharing your special birthday card too. Heather’s cards are so beautiful. Happy New Year!
Thank you, Rebecca. It's nice to publish a simple, joyful piece once in a while, esp. around the holidays. And it's always a pleasure to highlight Heather and her creativity. Happy New Year to you as well.
So much talent and generosity of spirit in your family🌱🌿💚💫
Thank you, Katharine. I hope the season and the holidays are bringing you some peace.
Be well, J.

Thanks, Lor. I have been very, very fortunate in my life, especially in regards to meeting Heather. Enjoy your cardinals...
Me too, Jason.

What a beautiful acknowledgement of your partners work and life choices. 🌺🌏🙏💗🕊
Thank you for a lovely article and the info about the Naturalist program.

This entree was just what all of us needed. Wonderful additions by Heather. So grateful I know you both- even a wee bit!
Happy New Year to you both🍁🍁🍂
Thank you, Laurie. Happy New Year to you too. Take care...
Many thanks for this lovely gift of winter beauty. Quite a talented family. 😊💚
Thank you, Julie. Heather is very talented. You should hear her sing...
Y’know, Substack has audio capability. Just sayin
Funny you should say that. She's been mulling over the idea of bringing her nature-based music to a Substack of her own. Stay tuned.
Thanks for sharing the lovely cards.
🙂. That suffices.
