This is an outstanding piece Jason! My suggestion….tighten it up if possible and submit it to the NYT or Washington Post (or Politico or….). It’s time for this information, so well-written by you, to get a really big audience!!!

Thank you, Deb. I like the idea of the bigger audience... especially because the environmental side of the election consequences isn't getting much coverage.

…..or The Atlantic or Esquire or The Guardian. This deserves a wider audience. Thank you.

Restacking to Notes. This essay was frightening. We are environmentally running out of time to avoid crossing over several more crucial tipping points and can absolutely not afford to delay and setbacks of four more years of an anti-environment coalition of forces. We actually do not have the luxury of four more years. It's one minute to go in the fourth quarter of a game we're losing, to save as many species as we can and to mitigate an already dire ongoing man-caused disaster.

*****

It's not that Trump is evil, it's that he's a compliant narcissistic tool of a coalition of economic forces that are very self-centered, criminally short-sighted, and let's face it, a bit dull-witted.

Yeah, my husband and I will have a lengthy discussion after receiving the news of the day . Then we give each other the 🎬 sign and head out the door for a hike. After hearing some of the highlights of the RNC we decided it is time to end our conversations . We are going on an extended hiatus from all things political . I can already breathe deeper…

Thank you for doing all the research. Revisiting every sickening point. How did we get to this place ? The train that is America heading to the precipice , our brakes failing as we approach. You know the problem .Trump supporters , for the most part, will not be reading to educate themselves on the implications. How do get the word out when the word is not being read.

Look at the audience at the convention , if you can stomach it. People showing their support by wearing a white gauze on their ears…

TRUMP v. UNITED STATES

The decision of July 1, 2024. Presidential Immunity. Official vs unofficial. Ultimately leaving the decision in the hands of the Supreme Court . If Trump gets elected, he will have the decision making powers of a king. With only the court to give the nod of approval on any and all. And they will. This is the scary part. He may be able to change the duration of a sitting president. You may have mentioned it, and I ‘blurred’ out when I read that part, because honestly, it is that frightening. Everything you have written about, and much much more will be approved. How do we change this when democrats are verbally pushing President Biden out of the running. And not even saying who would be a better choice at this moment. Will Pres. Biden falter under the pressure of another debate? We don’t know. Is he capable of being President? Of course he is. How many politicians, scholars , CEOs of corporate America, would have been able to stand up to , and speak coherently, while Trump ‘pokes the stick’ like a high voltage cattle prod. Over and over with lies that need a response. Anyone would have shut down, young or old.

The debate should not be considered an act that defines the ability of a presidency. I’m on empty.

With no solutions, only hope that ‘this too shall pass’ .

It is overwhelming, Lor. I feel much the same. Seeing a large crowd cheerfully waving "mass deportation" signs is bonkers. And my piece here only covers a tiny portion of what's at stake, but it's a portion that isn't getting as much coverage as it should. The voting bloc for aggressively crushing climate and wildlife conservation is tiny. The good news is that the voting bloc for all the Project 2025 stuff is also small, but people need to know what's at stake before they'll get off the couch to vote against it.

I don't know whether Biden or someone else should be the candidate - that's political punditry/guesswork - but I do know that whoever it is has to win. In the meantime, I think it's useful to take a breather amid the news. I haven't done it enough lately. I need to get outside and leave the world behind for a bit to remind me of what we're trying to save. Thanks for the comment, Lor.
